One other question, have you ever been shot with a. THAT is what we should be talking about with him. He wants to know if he can use it as protection and sadly he thinks he should minimize the damage to his attacker. He did not ask about where to keep his shotgun. I know where I put that cute little oak stick that I fire hardened is. I would also have backup handy but that is me. Frankly I have the good fortune to have a nice vintage Mossberg 500 pump action 12 in my bed room but if I had to defend myself with a slingshot, I think I could. I don't recommend that, but I am relatively certain that I could defend myself with one, if I had to do that. So here we have a guy that wants to defend himself with a slingshot. I expected them to give any invader one full minute to leave the property before they engaged but I also taught them that once they decided to engage to kill, not wound. I taught my children to first arm themselves, take cover, and then announce their presence to anyone who might be in the house. I think that pretty much nothing is worth risking a life. I am completely down with what you are saying. If you're not trapped, & they're NOT armed, then your best bet is to get out of there. "waiting for them to come to the stick" isn't good advice, & at no point did I come close to suggesting as much. I'm afraid you misread me there, too I wasn't suggesting the victim welcome any dents or dings (though I'd reckon they'd get a lot more than that if they did use a slingshot), I said whoever is doing the attacking is probably willing to eat a few to get what they want, be it revenge or your wallet. Absent a club/.40/whatever one decides is best suited for personal defense, then a slingshot may be in order.but I wouldn't be counting on it making anybody "run like ****", regardless of the motivation behind the attack. 45 man myself, but that's besides the point.I'm sorry oldspookASA, I certainly wasn't trying to rustle your jimmies there, but I saw "unarmed" & "at a distance", & couldn't imagine a better situation to make use of leg muscles. I am still completely down with the idea that cubical ammo is a simple option that can deliver maximum damage with minimal engineering effort. Rather than say we can't do it, lets figure out how we might do it. The second amendment only applies in the USA and sometimes I wonder how long that will last. I see in this forum a constant stream of "you can't use a slingshot that way" but in truth, there are people who have no other option than a sharp stick. Hammers are blunt force weapons, they kill with relatively small energies but they are very efficient. Firearms are different in that hemorrhage is only a part of their killing force. Such weapons *CAN NEVER* be considered instant stoppers. Slingshot can be made to be that kind of weapon. So a bow is a weapon that works because it causes massive hemorrhage. I guess he was feeling generous that day.ĭifferent weapons operate with different effiencies. Had he aimed higher, he would have killed that man. In truth, when I was a child back in the 60's a friend of mine, also a bow hunter, shot a man with his recurve bow when he caught him in his house after coming home from a hunt. Why do I say that? Simple really, compound bows don't always deliver that kind of energy. Gamekeeper John's vid of a 50 ft lb slingshot we have recently seen on youtube suggests that in fact a slingshot is a deadly weapon. but then that wasn't the question, was it? If you are sixty, you probably don't want any more dents and dings. If your attacker is at a distance and you can not escape you might wish you had a slingshot rather than waiting for him to come to the stick I also suggested you carry in such a situation.Ī wronged individual is not threatened. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!Ĭlick to expand. The point about legal issues is well mentioned. My slingshot and myself are the defenders of my country. I will keep my slingshot clean and ready. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. My slingshot is human, even as I, because it is my life. My slingshot and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must master it as I must master my life. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
